Good grooming is more than a finishing touch. It is a chance to notice comfort, build familiarity and prepare together.
Take a moment to notice
Before reaching for a brush, watch how your horse stands and responds to your approach. Quiet observation helps the yard team recognise changes. If something feels unusual, ask an instructor rather than trying to solve it alone.
Build a simple routine
Our stable-skills sessions work through everyday tasks in a sensible order: secure handling, grooming, equipment checks and a final look before mounting. The purpose is understanding, not speed. Familiar routines help both horse and rider feel settled.
Finish with the same care
Cooling down, removing tack carefully and leaving equipment ready for the next person are part of the session. Good partnerships rely on these small responsibilities being shared consistently.
Our coaches are happy to discuss these routines during a first visit. Every horse and rider is different, so follow your instructor’s guidance and make time to ask questions.

I like the emphasis on noticing the horse before starting a task. Understanding the reason for a care routine seems as useful as learning its order.
